CVE-2006-4805

CVSS v2.0

5.0

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Wireshark versions 0.9.8 through 0.99.3
Description The issue allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service, resulting in memory consumption and crash, via an encoded XOT packet that produces a zero length value when it is decoded. This occurs in the XOT dissector, specifically in the dissect xot pdu function.
Recommendations For Wireshark versions 0.9.8 through 0.99.3, consider disabling the XOT dissector as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to the dissect xot pdu function to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
