CVSS v2.0
7.8
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
VideoLAN VLC version 0.8.6a
Description:
The issue is caused by a buffer overflow in memory, allowing a remote attacker to cause a denial of service by crashing the application using a specially crafted .wmv file.
Recommendations:
For version 0.8.6a, consider avoiding the use of .wmv files until a patch is available to prevent potential exploitation. As a temporary workaround, restrict access to files with the .wmv extension to minimize the risk of a denial of service.
