High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions DaanSystems NewsReactor version 20070220.21
Description The issue is a stack-based buffer overflow that allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. This is achieved by sending a yEnc (yEncode) encoded article with a long filename.
Recommendations For DaanSystems NewsReactor version 20070220.21, consider restricting the handling of yEnc encoded articles with long filenames until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, limiting the length of filenames in yEnc encoded articles may help minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
