CVE-2007-4004
CVSS v2.0
6.9
Medium
| Vector | AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
IBM AIX versions 5.2.0 through 5.3 SP6
Description:
The issue is related to a buffer overflow in the ftp client, which can be triggered by unspecified vectors that cause an overflow in a gets function call. This allows local users to execute arbitrary code. The ftp client is setuid root on AIX, meaning this issue crosses privilege boundaries.
Recommendations:
For IBM AIX versions 5.2.0 through 5.3 SP6, consider restricting access to the ftp client until a fix is available. As a temporary workaround, disabling the setuid root bit on the ftp client may help minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
