Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
CHILKAT ASP String version 1.1 and earlier
Description
The issue is related to an absolute path traversal vulnerability in a certain ActiveX control in CkString.dll. This allows remote attackers to create or overwrite arbitrary files by providing a full pathname in the first argument to the
SaveToFile method.Recommendations
For CHILKAT ASP String version 1.1 and earlier, consider restricting access to the
SaveToFile method until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, avoid using the SaveToFile method with untrusted input to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.Exploit
