CVE-2007-5042

CVSS v2.0

4.6

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Outpost Firewall Pro version 4.0.1025.7828
Description The issue is related to the improper validation of certain parameters to System Service Descriptor Table (SSDT) function handlers. This can be exploited by local users to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly gain privileges. The vulnerable functions include NtCreateKey, NtDeleteFile, NtLoadDriver, NtOpenProcess, NtOpenSection, NtOpenThread, and NtUnloadDriver kernel SSDT hooks.
Recommendations For Outpost Firewall Pro version 4.0.1025.7828, consider restricting access to the vulnerable SSDT hooks until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, avoid using the NtCreateKey, NtDeleteFile, NtLoadDriver, NtOpenProcess, NtOpenSection, NtOpenThread, and NtUnloadDriver functions to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
