CVE-2007-5137
CVSS v2.0
6.8
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Tcl/Tk versions 8.4.13 through 8.4.15
Description
The issue is related to a buffer overflow in the ReadImage function, which can be exploited by remote attackers using multi-frame interlaced GIF files where later frames are smaller than the first. This can lead to the execution of arbitrary code. The vulnerability may also affect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information in the Debian GNU/Linux operating system, specifically in packages related to libtk-img.
Recommendations
For versions 8.4.13 through 8.4.15, consider disabling the ReadImage function in generic/tkImgGIF.c as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to multi-frame interlaced GIF files to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the affected function to process GIF files until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
