CVSS v2.0

9.3

High

VectorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Wireshark versions prior to 1.2.2 tethereal (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue is related to an integer overflow in the wiretap/erf.c file of Wireshark, which can be exploited by remote attackers via a crafted erf file. This can lead to the execution of arbitrary code or cause a denial of service, resulting in an application crash. Additionally, there are multiple vulnerabilities in the tethereal package of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system that can be exploited remotely, potentially disrupting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information.
Recommendations For Wireshark versions prior to 1.2.2, update to version 1.2.2 or later to resolve the issue. For tethereal, at the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
