| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
PCRE versions prior to 7.6
Description
The issue is related to a buffer overflow in PCRE, which can be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. This can be achieved through a regular expression containing a character class with a large number of characters with Unicode code points greater than 255. The vulnerability may lead to a breach of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information and can be exploited remotely.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 7.6, update to version 7.6 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of regular expressions with large character classes to minimize the risk of exploitation.
