CVE-2008-1489
CVSS v2.0
6.8
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
VLC version 0.8.6e
Description
The issue is related to an integer overflow in the
MP4 ReadBox rdrf function in libmp4.c, which can be exploited by remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code. This is achieved through a crafted MP4 RDRF box that triggers a heap-based buffer overflow.Recommendations
For VLC version 0.8.6e, consider updating to a newer version to mitigate the risk, as the current version is affected by the integer overflow vulnerability in the
MP4 ReadBox rdrf function. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of the MP4 ReadBox rdrf function until a patch is available.Exploit
