CVE-2008-0509

CVSS v2.0

4.4

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:M/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions IBM AIX version 4.3
Description The issue is related to multiple buffer overflows that can be triggered by providing a long argument to either piox25 or piox25remote. This can cause a denial of service, resulting in a system crash, or potentially allow attackers to gain privileges. The buffer overflows are associated with the files piox25.c and piox25remote.sh.
Recommendations For IBM AIX version 4.3, consider restricting access to piox25 and piox25remote to minimize the risk of exploitation until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, limiting the length of arguments passed to these functions may help prevent the buffer overflows. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
