CVE-2008-0924

CVSS v2.0

6.8

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Novell eDirectory versions 8.7.3.9 and earlier Novell eDirectory versions 8.8.1 and earlier
Description The issue is related to a stack-based buffer overflow in the DoLBURPRequest function, which can be triggered by sending a long delRequest LDAP Extended Request message. This message likely involves a long Distinguished Name (DN) field. The overflow can cause a denial of service, resulting in a daemon crash or excessive CPU consumption, or potentially allow the execution of arbitrary code.
Recommendations For Novell eDirectory versions 8.7.3.9 and earlier, update to a version later than 8.7.3.9 to resolve the issue. For Novell eDirectory versions 8.8.1 and earlier, update to a version later than 8.8.1 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the DoLBURPRequest function until a patch is available.
