| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
PowerDNS Recursor versions prior to 3.1.5
Description
The issue is related to insufficient randomness used to calculate TRXID values and UDP source port numbers. This makes it easier for remote attackers to poison a DNS cache. The problem is connected to algorithmic deficiencies in
rand and random functions in external libraries, the use of a 32-bit seed value, and the choice of the time of day as the sole seeding information.Recommendations
For PowerDNS Recursor versions prior to 3.1.5, update to version 3.1.5 or later to resolve the issue.
