| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Windows Media Player versions 9 through 11
Description
The issue is related to an integer overflow in the quartz.dll component of the DirectShow framework in Windows Media Player. This can be triggered by a crafted WAV, SND, or MID file, leading to a denial of service in the form of an application crash.
Recommendations
For Windows Media Player versions 9 through 11, consider restricting the playback of WAV, SND, and MID files from untrusted sources until a fix is available. As a temporary workaround, avoid using the affected quartz.dll component if possible. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
