10
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Mozilla Firefox versions prior to 2.0.0.17
Mozilla Firefox versions 3.x prior to 3.0.2
Thunderbird versions prior to 2.0.0.17
SeaMonkey versions prior to 1.1.12
Description
The issue allows remote attackers to bypass cross-site scripting (XSS) protection mechanisms and conduct XSS attacks via byte order mark (BOM) characters that are removed from JavaScript code before execution. Multiple vulnerabilities in various packages of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system can lead to a violation of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information, and can be exploited remotely.
Recommendations
For Mozilla Firefox versions prior to 2.0.0.17, update to version 2.0.0.17 or later.
For Mozilla Firefox versions 3.x prior to 3.0.2, update to version 3.0.2 or later.
For Thunderbird versions prior to 2.0.0.17, update to version 2.0.0.17 or later.
For SeaMonkey versions prior to 1.1.12, update to version 1.1.12 or later.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the execution of JavaScript code that contains byte order mark (BOM) characters until a patch is available.
