Description
The issue allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) and URL-encoded / (slash) characters in a resource: URI. Multiple vulnerabilities in various packages of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system can lead to disruption of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information. These vulnerabilities can be exploited remotely.
Recommendations
For Mozilla Firefox versions prior to 2.0.0.17, update to version 2.0.0.17 or later.
For Mozilla Firefox 3.x versions prior to 3.0.2, update to version 3.0.2 or later.
For Thunderbird versions prior to 2.0.0.17, update to version 2.0.0.17 or later.
For SeaMonkey versions prior to 1.1.12, update to version 1.1.12 or later.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to resource: URIs to minimize the risk of exploitation.
