CVE-2008-6540
CVSS v2.0
5.1
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
DotNetNuke versions prior to 4.8.2
Description
The issue allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions by using default keys. This occurs because DotNetNuke does not warn the administrator when the default ValidationKey and DecryptionKey values cannot be modified in the web.config file during installation or upgrade.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 4.8.2, update to version 4.8.2 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider manually modifying the ValidationKey and DecryptionKey values in the web.config file to unique values. Restrict access to the web.config file to minimize the risk of exploitation.
