Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl versions 1.0006 and earlier
Description
The issue is related to a stack-based buffer overflow in the IPureServer:: Recieve function. This allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a compressed 0x39 packet, which is decompressed by the NET Compressor::Decompress function.
Recommendations
For S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl versions 1.0006 and earlier, consider restricting access to the IPureServer:: Recieve function until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, avoid using the NET Compressor::Decompress function for decompressing packets. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
