CVE-2009-0003
CVSS v2.0
9.3
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Apple QuickTime versions prior to 7.6
Description
The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow that can be triggered by a crafted AVI movie file with an invalid nBlockAlign value in the WAVEFORMATEX structure. This can cause a denial of service, resulting in application termination, and potentially allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code.
Recommendations
For Apple QuickTime versions prior to 7.6, update to version 7.6 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of AVI movie files with invalid nBlockAlign values in the WAVEFORMATEX structure until a patch is applied. Restrict access to potentially malicious AVI files to minimize the risk of exploitation.
