CVSS v2.0
9.3
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Apple QuickTime versions prior to 7.6
Description
The issue is caused by an integer signedness error that allows remote attackers to potentially execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service via a crafted Cinepak encoded movie file. This file can trigger a heap-based buffer overflow, specifically by exploiting a crafted MDAT atom.
Recommendations
For Apple QuickTime versions prior to 7.6, update to version 7.6 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of Cinepak encoded movie files until the update is applied.
