9.3
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Apple QuickTime versions prior to 7.6
Description
The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow that can be triggered by a QuickTime movie file containing invalid image width data in JPEG atoms within STSD atoms, or crafted JPEG atoms. This can cause a denial of service, resulting in application termination, and potentially allow the execution of arbitrary code.
Recommendations
For Apple QuickTime versions prior to 7.6, update to version 7.6 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of QuickTime movie files containing JPEG atoms until the issue is resolved. Restrict access to potentially malicious QuickTime movie files to minimize the risk of exploitation.
