CVE-2009-0049
CVSS v2.0
5.0
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Belgian eID middleware (eidlib) versions 2.6.0 and earlier
Description
The issue allows remote attackers to bypass validation of the certificate chain via a malformed SSL/TLS signature for DSA and ECDSA keys. This occurs because the return value from the OpenSSL EVP VerifyFinal function is not properly checked.
Recommendations
For versions 2.6.0 and earlier, ensure proper checking of the return value from the OpenSSL EVP VerifyFinal function to prevent bypassing of certificate chain validation. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of DSA and ECDSA keys until a patch is available.
Fix
Improper Authentication
