Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Apple Mac OS X version 10.5.8
Description
The issue is related to Launch Services in Apple Mac OS X, which fails to properly recognize an unsafe Uniform Type Identifier (UTI) in an exported document type in a downloaded application. This allows remote attackers to trigger the automatic opening of a file and execute arbitrary code via a crafted web site.
Recommendations
For Apple Mac OS X version 10.5.8, consider disabling the automatic opening of files from downloaded applications as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to unsafe Uniform Type Identifiers (UTIs) to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
