CVE-2010-1797

CVSS v2.0

9.3

High

VectorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Freetype versions prior to 2.4.8 Freetype versions prior to 2.4.2
Description The issue concerns multiple stack-based buffer overflows in the cff decoder parse charstrings function, which can be exploited remotely. This can lead to the execution of arbitrary code or cause a denial of service due to memory corruption. The exploitation can be triggered by crafted CFF opcodes in embedded fonts in a PDF document.
Recommendations For versions prior to 2.4.2, consider updating to version 2.4.2 or later to resolve the issue. For versions prior to 2.4.8, consider updating to version 2.4.8 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of embedded fonts in PDF documents to minimize the risk of exploitation.
