| Vector | AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Microsoft Windows versions prior to the fixed version
Description
The issue arises from the Client/Server Run-time Subsystem (CSRSS) in Microsoft Windows not properly terminating user processes when a user logs out. This allows a local user to potentially obtain sensitive information or gain privileges by executing a crafted application that continues to run throughout the logout of one user and the login session of the next user. An attacker who successfully exploits this issue could run arbitrary code in kernel mode, enabling them to install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.
Recommendations
For Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2 and SP3, and Server 2003 SP2, update to a version that includes the fix for this issue.
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
