High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Wireshark versions 0.9.15 through 1.0.10 Wireshark versions 1.2.0 through 1.2.5
Description The issue is related to multiple buffer overflows in the LWRES dissector, which can be exploited by remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a malformed packet. This can be achieved by triggering a stack-based buffer overflow to the dissect getaddrsbyname request function.
Recommendations For Wireshark versions 0.9.15 through 1.0.10, update to a version outside of this range to resolve the issue. For Wireshark versions 1.2.0 through 1.2.5, update to a version outside of this range to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the LWRES dissector until a patch is available.
