CVE-2010-0516
CVSS v2.0
6.8
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Apple Mac OS X versions prior to 10.6.3
Description
The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow in QuickTime, which can be triggered by a crafted movie file with RLE encoding. This can cause memory corruption when the length of decompressed data exceeds that of the allocated heap chunk, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service, resulting in an application crash.
Recommendations
For Apple Mac OS X versions prior to 10.6.3, update to version 10.6.3 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of RLE encoded movie files until the update is applied.
