| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
QuickTime versions prior to 10.6.3
Description
The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow in QuickTime, specifically in the QuickTimeMPEG.qtx component when handling MPEG encoding in movie files. This overflow occurs due to improper handling of a crafted genl atom during decompression, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service, resulting in an application crash.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 10.6.3, update to version 10.6.3 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of MPEG-encoded movie files with crafted genl atoms until the update is applied.
