CVSS v2.0

5.0

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Apple Safari versions 4.0.4 and earlier Google Chrome version 4.0.249 and earlier
Description A stack consumption issue in the WebCore::CSSSelector function in WebKit allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service, potentially leading to application crashes, or possibly execute arbitrary code. This issue can be triggered via a STYLE element composed of a large number of *> sequences.
Recommendations For Apple Safari version 4.0.4 and earlier, update to a newer version to resolve the issue. For Google Chrome version 4.0.249 and earlier, update to a newer version to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of STYLE elements in WebKit until a patch is available.
