6.9

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 2.6.37
Description The issue is related to the load mixer volumes function in the OSS sound subsystem, which incorrectly expects a certain name field to end with a '0' character. This allows local users to conduct buffer overflow attacks, potentially gaining privileges or obtaining sensitive information from kernel memory via a SOUND MIXER SETLEVELS ioctl call.
