CVE-2010-4652

CVSS v2.0

6.8

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions ProFTPD versions prior to 1.3.3d
Description The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow in the sql prepare where function, which can be exploited when mod sql is enabled. This occurs because substitution tags in a crafted username are not properly handled during the construction of an SQL query, potentially allowing remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code.
Recommendations For versions prior to 1.3.3d, update to version 1.3.3d or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the mod sql module until a patch is available. Restrict access to the sql prepare where function to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using crafted usernames containing substitution tags in the affected SQL query until the issue is resolved.
