Description The issue arises from the improper validation of user-mode input by the Ancillary Function Driver (AFD) in afd.sys, allowing local users to gain privileges via a crafted application. This could enable an attacker to run code with elevated privileges, potentially leading to the execution of arbitrary code and complete control of an affected system. The attacker could then install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.

For Microsoft Windows Server 2003 version SP2, update to a newer version that includes the fix for this issue. For Microsoft Windows Vista versions SP1 through SP2, update to a newer version that includes the fix for this issue.
