Description
The issue is a buffer overflow in Active Directory, Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM), and Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (AD LDS) that allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code via a crafted query. This is due to incorrect memory initialization.
Recommendations
For Microsoft Windows XP versions SP2 and SP3, update to a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
For Microsoft Windows Server 2003 version SP2, update to a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
For Microsoft Windows Vista version SP2, update to a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
For Microsoft Windows Server 2008 versions SP2, R2, and R2 SP1, update to a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
For Microsoft Windows 7 versions Gold and SP1, update to a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the vulnerable Active Directory components until a patch is available.
