CVE-2011-3982
CVSS v2.0
2.1
Low
| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
IBM AIX versions 6.1 through 7.1
Description
The issue is related to the Fibre Channel driver for QLogic adapters, which does not properly handle DMA resource limitations. This can be exploited by local users to cause a denial of service, resulting in a system hang. The denial of service is caused by vectors that generate a large amount of DMA I/O, leading to a deadlock in timer processing across CPUs.
Recommendations
For IBM AIX versions 6.1 through 7.1, consider restricting access to the Fibre Channel driver for QLogic adapters to minimize the risk of exploitation. As a temporary workaround, limit the amount of DMA I/O generated to prevent system hangs. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
