| Vector | AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
SmartSniff version 1.71
Description
The issue allows local users to gain privileges through an untrusted search path vulnerability. This can be exploited by placing a Trojan horse wpcap.dll file in the current working directory, particularly in directories containing .cfg or .ssp files.
Recommendations
For SmartSniff version 1.71, consider restricting access to the
wpcap.dll file to minimize the risk of exploitation until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, avoid using directories that contain .cfg or .ssp files, or ensure that only trusted wpcap.dll files are present in those directories.Fix
