Description The issue allows remote authenticated users to bypass intended access restrictions. This is possible because the clients.rb controller in Chef Server does not require administrative privileges for creating admin clients. Users with read permission for the validation key can execute a knife client create command with the --admin option to exploit this.

Recommendations For Chef Server versions prior to 0.9.20, update to version 0.9.20 or later. For Chef Server versions 0.10.x prior to 0.10.6, update to version 0.10.6 or later.
