Description
The issue is related to an integer overflow in the kernel, allowing local users to gain privileges via a crafted application. This is due to the improper handling of objects in memory. An attacker who successfully exploits this could run arbitrary code in kernel mode, enabling them to install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full administrative rights.
Recommendations
For Microsoft Windows XP versions SP2 through SP3, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
