CVSS v2.0
6.8
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
VLC media player versions prior to 2.0.2
Description
The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow in the OGG demuxer, specifically in the Ogg DecodePacket function. This can be triggered by a crafted OGG file, potentially allowing remote attackers to cause the application to crash or possibly execute arbitrary code.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 2.0.2, update to version 2.0.2 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of the OGG demuxer until a patch is applied.
