CVE-2012-6542

CVSS v2.0

1.9

Low

VectorAV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 3.6
Description The issue is related to the llc ui getname function in the Linux kernel, which has an incorrect return value under certain circumstances. This allows local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel stack memory by leveraging an uninitialized pointer argument in a crafted application.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions prior to 3.6, update to version 3.6 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the llc ui getname function until a patch is available.
