CVE-2012-5667
CVSS v2.0
4.4
Medium
| Vector | AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Grep versions prior to 2.12
Description
The issue is caused by multiple integer overflows in the Grep utility, which can be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service by inputting a very long string. This can lead to violations of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information. The exploitation can be performed locally.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 2.12, update to version 2.12 or later to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the input length to prevent exploitation until a patch is available.
