Description
The issue is related to a buffer overflow in the extend buffers function in the regular expression matcher. This can be exploited by context-dependent attackers using crafted multibyte characters, potentially leading to a denial of service through memory corruption and crash.

For versions prior to 2.17, update to version 2.17 or later to resolve the issue.
