VectorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Windows XP versions SP2 through SP3 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 version SP2 Microsoft Windows Vista version SP2 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 version SP2
Description A remote code execution issue exists in the way Microsoft Windows handles certain specially crafted Windows theme files. This could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code if a user applies a specially crafted Windows theme. An attacker could then install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.
Recommendations For Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and SP3, apply a specially crafted Windows theme file fix or update to prevent exploitation. For Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2, avoid applying specially crafted Windows theme files until a patch is available. For Microsoft Windows Vista SP2, restrict access to theme files to minimize the risk of exploitation. For Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP2, consider disabling the application of Windows theme files as a temporary workaround until a patch is available.
