VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Windows versions prior to the patchday that contains the fix for the vulnerability
Description The Group Policy implementation in Microsoft Windows does not properly handle distribution of passwords, which allows remote authenticated users to obtain sensitive credential information and consequently gain privileges by leveraging access to the SYSVOL share. This issue has been exploited in the wild. The vulnerability is related to the distribution of passwords created based on Group Policy Preferences and exists in Active Directory.
Recommendations For all affected versions, consider restricting access to the SYSVOL share to minimize the risk of exploitation. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the use of Group Policy Preferences that involve password distribution until a patch is available. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
