CVSS v2.0
5.0
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Pidgin versions prior to 2.10.8
Description
The issue is related to an integer signedness error in the MXit functionality, which can be exploited by remote attackers to cause a denial of service or potentially execute arbitrary code. This is achieved by sending a crafted message that triggers an integer overflow and a buffer overflow.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 2.10.8, update to version 2.10.8 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the MXit functionality until a patch is available. Restrict access to the MXit component to minimize the risk of exploitation.
