Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Microsoft Windows versions prior to the patchday that contains the fix for the vulnerability
Description
The issue is related to the improper handling of TrueType fonts by the kernel-mode driver in Windows, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. This has been exploited in the wild. An attacker who successfully exploits this issue could run arbitrary code in kernel mode, enabling them to install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full administrative rights.
Recommendations
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the handling of TrueType fonts by the kernel-mode driver until a patch is available.
Restrict access to the kernel-mode driver to minimize the risk of exploitation.
Avoid using the
win32k.sys driver in the kernel-mode until the issue is resolved.
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.RCE
