CVE-2014-2240

CVSS v2.0

7.5

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions freetype versions prior to 2.5.3
Description The issue is related to a stack-based buffer overflow in the cf2 hintmap build function, which can be exploited remotely. This can lead to a denial of service (crash) and potentially allow the execution of arbitrary code via a large number of stem hints in a font file. The exploitation of this issue may compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information.
Recommendations For versions prior to 2.5.3, update to version 2.5.3 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of font files from untrusted sources to minimize the risk of exploitation.
