CVE-2014-0016
CVSS v2.0
4.3
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
stunnel versions prior to 5.00
stunnel versions prior to 5.02
Description
The issue is related to the improper update of the OpenSSL pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) state when using fork threading in stunnel. This causes subsequent children with the same process ID to use the same entropy pool, allowing remote attackers to obtain private keys for EC (ECDSA) or DSA certificates. The vulnerability can be exploited remotely and may lead to a breach of confidentiality.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 5.00, update to version 5.00 or later.
For versions prior to 5.02, update to version 5.02 or later.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the fork threading feature in stunnel until a patch is available.
