CVSS v2.0
7.5
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
International Components for Unicode (ICU) versions prior to 55.1
Description
The issue is related to the resolveImplicitLevels function in the Unicode Bidirectional Algorithm implementation, which does not properly track directionally isolated pieces of text. This allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted text. The problem is caused by a heap-based buffer overflow.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 55.1, update to version 55.1 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the input to the resolveImplicitLevels function to prevent exploitation until a patch is applied.
