CVSS v2.0
2.1
Low
| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Avast! Internet Security version 5.0
Description
The issue is related to an integer overflow in the aswFW.sys driver, which can be exploited by local users to cause a denial of service. This is achieved by sending a crafted IOCTL ASWFW COMM PIDINFO RESULTS DeviceIoControl request to the .aswFW endpoint. The result is memory corruption and a system panic.
Recommendations
For Avast! Internet Security version 5.0, consider updating to a newer version that addresses this issue. As a temporary workaround, restrict access to the aswFW.sys driver to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the IOCTL ASWFW COMM PIDINFO RESULTS DeviceIoControl request to the .aswFW endpoint until the issue is resolved.
