Description The issue allows local users to cause a denial of service, resulting in a system crash, or obtain sensitive information from kernel memory. This is achieved via a crafted PT LDINFO operation in the ptrace system call.

Recommendations For IBM AIX versions 5.3 through 7.1, consider restricting access to the ptrace system call until a patch is available. For VIOS versions 2.2.x, restrict access to the ptrace system call to minimize the risk of exploitation. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the ptrace system call for local users until a fix is provided.
